Fourth Grade's New Song of the Month!

Fourth grade is starting out the year with one of my favorite songs!  It is "Turn the World Around." In class we will be watching this video of Harry Belafonte singing it with the Muppets:

Our version is just a bit shorter.  Here are the lyrics for the fourth grade version:

We come from the fire,
We live in the fire,
Go back to the fire,
Turn the world around.

We come from the water,
We live in the water,
Go back to the water,
Turn the world around.

We come from the mountain,
We live on the mountain,
Go back to the mountain,
Turn the world around.

Whoa-ho!  So is life!
A-ha! So is life!

Do you know who I am?
Do I know who you are?
See we one another clearly?
Do we know who we are?

Whoa-ho!  So is life!
A-ha! So is life!

Water make the river,
River wash the mountain,
Fire make the sunlight,
Turn the world around.

Welcome back!

Welcome back!  I hope everyone is refreshed after a nice, long, hot summer off!

Grade 2 is being introduced to music money this week!  This is a positive reinforcement used in grades 2 through 5.  Here is the gist of what they need to know:

$Music Money$
You can earn music dollars in many different ways: setting a good example, answering a difficult question, singing/playing a solo, etc.

Each music dollar has a picture of a different composer: Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, or Clara Schumann.  Just ask when I give it to you and I will be happy to tell you who is on it!

Once I have given you a music dollar it is your responsibility.  I do not replace lost or destroyed music dollars.

Prices:
$1 Stickers (1 large or 2 small)
$2 Small prize
$4 Large prize
$6 Recorder (Starting in October only!)

There are no prizes for $3, $5, or more than $6, if you have that amount of money you need to use your math skills to figure out what you can buy.
